let’s begin again…
Well, here we are. There’s something strangely tantalising sitting at the very start of a very new year full of anticipation of all that is to come. Like the pages of a new diary yet to be marked with the highs and lows and emotions of what has been. And there’s always that moment before we fall headlong into the year, where it’s possible to dream of new beginnings. To peer into the days, weeks and months ahead with wonder.

And for this household, it really is a new beginning. This is the year where we dig up the roots that have sunken deeply into good soil over the last fifteen years and carry them across the oceans to transplant them into new soil. The year where we hold tight to the One who calls Himself Faithful knowing that He is our refuge, our safety; the One who will water and cause to grow again. The year where we recall our adventurous youth and wonder if any of that daring remains.

We came as two individuals, full of fire, passion, love for Jesus and a desire to impact. The two began the journey of becoming one. There were adventures, great highs and deep lows, years spent building a foundation and then the addition began. To the two trying to become one were added three. And in the space of six years a small family began to take shape. Not your ordinary family with ordinary roots. But a family comprised of roots reaching over oceans. We were the American Norwegians living in Australia. This was our family’s beginnings.

And now? Now we take that fire, passion, love for Jesus and desire to impact and transplant our lives into our new home. Norway. We will become the American Norwegians living in Norway. That great big spot that has been carved in our hearts for Australia will always remain. We will probably always consider ourselves unofficial Australians and it will take months for our boys’ Aussie accents to wane, but it will no longer be in our family title. And though the tears flow and the goodbyes will come, we go with our Safe Saviour into our new beginnings. It’s His heart we follow. It’s His desire becoming ours.

Once an Aussie, always an Aussie
